KALA THAI RESTAURANT AND BAR REVIEW: SAMPLING THE MENU AND COCKTAILS

Thai cuisine is my absolute favourite, so how delighted was I to be invited to the launch night of Kala Thai, a swanky new authentic Thai restaurant in the heart of Bournemouth. Dinner and glamorous cocktails?  You betcha!

KALA THAI REVIEW: MEET THE TEAM

Operated by the dynamic chef Tom Saengthong, who hails from Bangkok, supported by his team of four authentic Thai chefs and wife, Kala  (hence the name guys); the bar and cocktail arena headed up by Mitch (the master mixologist).

THE DECOR AND AMBIANCE

Once inside the restaurant, the area is so spacious (so social distance can easily be adhered to), and although spacious the ambiance feels warm and inviting. There is seating inside for 80 guests and outside boasts a fabulous alfresco area which seats 50, whatever the weather, as diners are kept dry under a fabulous bespoke electric roof! The unique dining tables and amazing long bar have been created using locally sourced wood from the New Forest.

THE MENU: SAMPLING THE CUISINE

During the evening we were lucky enough to sample an array of traditional Thai cuisine dishes which included green Thai curry (my fave Thai dish) and this one was to die for, vegetable noodles with chilli, both vegetable and duck spring rolls, Thai tofu and vegetables, pad Thai, pad kra pow with beef and finally Thai fish cakes. All the cuisine is freshly cooked at the restaurant and was dripping in flavour. A sensational taste of Thailand and a fabulous Menu!

THE GLAMOROUS COCKTAILS

As well as the food, we were treated to colourful and glamorous cocktails, created and mixed perfectly by Mitch, who clearly adored his craft. As it was such a barmy summer’s evening, the Thai Cuchi Cuchi and fresh Mojito cocktails poured over crushed ice certainly did not disappoint, and went down a storm, the non-alcoholic cocktails such as the lime leaf cooler were also delicious too!

PRICING

The pricing point is reasonable, a chicken satay skewer starter can be enjoyed for £5.95 with rice dishes starting from £3.95, and a selection of authentic Thai soups start at £5.95. Kala Thai also offer a fantastic deal from 12 noon to 3 pm where diners can enjoy one course for £7.95 or two courses for as little as £9.95, offering a large selection of dishes to chose from.

Looks so good; those cocktails are surely glamorous! I also love Thai food and have fond memories of attending a communal Thai dinner; there were soups and sides and mains and the flavors of lemongrass and coconut milk is still in my mouth. 🙂
