A bar serving local bites, coffee, cocktails and curated playlists. This sounded like the perfect combination to me too, so how on earth could I refuse an invitation to attend a showcase evening of cocktails and sushi with the Bournemouth Blogging crew?

The Sky Bar on the 7th Floor of the Hilton Hotel in Bournemouth is a regular haunt of ours, so I was excited and curious to check out their sister bar on the ground floor.

Situated on the lower deck adjacent to the new BH2 complex in Bournemouth, Tonic Social is positioned in a fabulous spot. With a southerly aspect, the outside terrace is perfect for soaking up the mid-afternoon sun whilst sipping on an aperitif watching the world go by, Bournemouth you say? more like St-Tropez darlings! Inside there’s a large bar, boasting an impressive array of wines, spirits and mixers. The décor is sophisticated, but welcoming and I particularly loved the mix of tiled and slate top bars. the kooky teal stools created a contemporary but cosy feel.

On arrival, we were greeted by a team of warm and welcoming staff. I was really impressed by their passion and enthusiasm, and how knowledgeable and engaging they were. Chef Matt Budden and Chef Kamil (Art Sushi), masterfully demonstrated the art of sushi and treated us to platters of delicious courses throughout the evening.

Serving a selection of pizzas, brunch and kids eat for free with every main meal, there is definitely something for everyone here.

Freshly served until 9 pm daily, chose from Mozzarella & Basil for £7.00 or perhaps if you fancy something spicier, then try the Pepperoni & Jalapeno pizza priced at £8.50.

If like me, you are totally useless at making a decision based around food (just in case you miss out), then why not order a selection of picky bits instead? From olives, to garlic bread, sweet potato fries and salads you can graze until your heart’s content.

Brunch is served until 4 pm from Friday to Sunday and offers a great selection, ranging from the traditional bacon sandwich to smashed avocado on toast and for the larger appetite why not try the Tonic Fry Up? For only £9.50 you’ll enjoy thick cut bacon, fat sausages, free range fried eggs, smashed avocado, roasted field mushrooms, roasted tomato and fried bread.

And if it’s Sushi you crave then you must try one of the beloved Social Sushi evenings which offer 2 new delicious Japanese courses and a sushi starter. All will be prepared by the award-winning and super talented, chef Art Sushi UK,

The resident mixologists certainly know how to ‘mix’ that’s for sure! I can honestly say (with hand on heart), I’d never tasted cocktails this damn fine and boy I’ve had plenty of practice …….

We enjoyed a lime and Prosecco cocktail which was (strong) but really refreshing and not dissimilar to an Italian limoncello, perfect for after dinner or equally to be enjoyed anytime!  I really loved the vodka and raspberry with fruit, and judging by the rest of the gals, so did they, and what better way to finish off the evening than with an Expresso Martini? These were fabulous, so rich and creamy with a sprinkle of chocolate finished off with a heart-shaped coffee bean, what is not to love?

However, if a glass of vino is your thing then prices start from just £4.50 for a very crisp, 175 ml glass of Le Roleur blanc de blanc (France), with cold glasses of Peroni available on tap.

Promising great vibes and a fabulous ambiance, Tonic Social should definitely be on your list of bars to visit  when you pop over to Bournemouth.
